Portions Guide
The majority of cakes shown on my website have 3-tiers - 10” (25 cm), 8” (20 cm) and 6” (15cm). These will cater for between 100 and 200 guests, depending on the shape. The charts below show this in more detail.

Dessert Portions
However, if you wish to use the cake as dessert, either formally plated at a sit-down meal, or on the buffet table in the evening, then a larger portion, approx 1” (2.5cm) x 2” (5 cm) x 3” (7.5cm) should be allowed.

Dessert Wedges
If you wish to serve a wedge of cake, rather than a ‘slab’, for example at a birthday party, then this is best achieved with a round cake. This is allowing a 1” (2.5 cm) wedge at the outer edge of the cake, so the larger the cake, the longer and thus larger the wedge.

Fingers of Cake
This shows how many portions of cake measuring approx 1” (2.5cm) x 1” (2.5 cm) x 3” (7.5cm) (height of cake) could be cut from the following size and shapes of cake. This finger of cake is traditional for fruit cake, or if a token amount of sponge is to be consumed just to ‘toast’ the bride and groom.
